Installing a plugin for your WordPress website is easy for those who know their way around wordpress but as a newbie, this might seem as a herculean task and that is the reason for publishing this post.

HOW TO INSTALL A PLUGIN IN WORDPRESS

Generally, there are two ways to install a plugin in wordpress and they are:

Manually

Installing from your WordPress dashboard

Installing From your WordPress Dashboard

This is the easiest method for newbies as it takes seconds to install.

Follow the steps below:

Login to your WordPress dashboard

Click on plugins and select Add New.

Click on Upload Plugin

Search for the plugin you want to install and once you have found it, click on install now.

Once you have installed it, activate it and that is all.

If you have downloaded the plugin in a zip file, the you should select Upload plugin.

Click on Choose File to select the plugin zip file or you can drag and drop the plugin.

HOW TO INSTALL A PLUGIN MANUALLY

In this method, you have to unrar/unzip the zip file. This method can be accomplished via two ways namely:

Via your Cpanel

Via FTP

VIA CPANEL

Login to your Cpanel

Click on File Directory

Double click on wp-content.

Double click on Plugins.

Click on Upload at the top of the page.

Click on Select Files or drag and drop the file.

VIA FTP

I recently published a post here and in the post, I showed how you can access your website contents via FTP. I will briefly explain how you can go about it but I will advise you to read the post whenever you are free.

Launch your FTP server(FIleZilla Preferably).

In order to get your FTP details, check the mail that your hosting server sent to you immediately you purchased your hosting plan. The image below shows how it looks like.

Now for Host field, use sftp://yourcpaneladress

For Username field, use your cpanel username.

For Password, use your cpanel password.

The port details will be in your email which your hosting provider sent to you and mine is 21098.

Once you are done, click on Quick connect and your website folders will appear on the right hand side.

Now, directly under home, you will see a folder bearing the name of your cpanel username.

Click on it and sub folders will appear under it.

Find the folderpublic_html and click on it.

Click on Wp-content

Click on Plugins

Drag and drop the folder which you got when you unzipped the initial zip file from where you saved it and drop it in the plugin directory.

Please if you encountered any problem while following any of the steps listed, please comment below and we will contact you via email.
