Xampp is one of the most used local host apart from wamp. A local host will help you run your wordpress with your system as a host and this means that you do not have to pay any amount for hosting as your wordpress website will be able to use the website for free. In this post, I wil show you how to install wordpress on your local host(XAMPP).
HOW TO INSTALL WORDPRESS ON LOCAL HOST

The first step is to download and install wordpress and in order to do that, you will have to go to WordPress website. or type wordpress.org in your browser.
Click on Get WordPress on the top right hand corner of your screen
Click on download WordPress 5.4.2 and the zip file would be downloaded
The next step is to download the local host(XAMPP)by going to Apache Friendsor type this address on your web browser apachefriends.org
Click on XAMPP for Windows and your download will start. The file is a bit large so it will take some time.
Now go to where the XAMPP file is (it will be in an .exe format)
Right Click on it and select Run as Administrator and a pop-up will appear like the one in the image below.
Click on Next.
Click on Next and choose your installation directory. it would be advisable to leave it as you saw it.
Click on Next till the installation starts.
In order to run it, go to this file path on your system Windows(C:)>>ProgramData>>Microsoft>>Windows>>Start Menu>>Programs>>Xampp.
If you are using Windows 8,click on the Windows button by the bottom left corner of your screen and if you are using Windows 7 or Windows 10, the same method can be followed but you might have a different way of achieving this for Windows 7 or Windows 10.
Right Click on XAMPP Control Panel and select Open.
Please once the program is open, pin it to the taskbar so that it will be easier to open next time
Now that you have installed Xampp successfully, the next step is to Unzip the WordPress file.
Go to the WordPress file you downloaded
Select the file, right Click on it and click on extract files if you are using Winrar. If you are using any other extraction file, do not select Extract files hereas it will automatically extract the files to the current location and it will not open.
The next step is to select the installation path/directory. Make sure it matches with this C:\xammp\htdocs or you can do that by
clicking on Windows(C:) folder
Search for the Xampp folder and click on it
We have successfully installed WordPress on our local(Xampp) and the next step is to setup a database for our website.
Now start the XAMPP server by following the procedures in Step 1
Click on start for Apache and MySQL only.
Open your web browser and type in this address on your web browser localhost/phpmyadmin.
Click on Databases and you will be directed to a place where you can create a table.
Type in any name you want as the database Name and click on create[The name of my database is Yoman]
Open another window and type in this address localhost/wordpress and you will be taken to a page as seen in the image below.
Select your language, I have selected English as my language
Click on Let’s go
For the Database name: Use the name of the database you entered in phpmyadmin[Mine was Yoman.]
Password: Leave it empty
Database Host: localhost
Table Prefix: wp_
Once you are done, click on Submit
Click on Run the installation
You will be redirected to a page where you will create the website details.
Site title: This is the name of your website[We used WORDPRESS SITE as our title.]
Username:This is what you will use to login to the wordpress dashboard.
Password:This is the password you will use while trying to login
Your Email:This is your mailing address
Click on Install WordPress
You will get a success message if you followed the appropriate steps.
Click on Login to access your WordPress dashboard
If you want to access the website next time, simply type in localhost/wordpress/wp-admin
HOW TO EXIT XAMPP SERVER
The Xampp server is not like a typical app where you can use the exit button to close the app.
Open the control panel, click on Stop for the Apache and MySQl and finally click on Quit.
